Julius Worthy, a 42-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 41 years in prison for the murder of Orlando Galloway and the assault of Shaquia Lewis. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Worthy was convicted on November 21, 2025, by a Superior Court jury on charges including second-degree murder and assault with intent to kill. Judge Jason Park ordered that Worthy serve his sentence along with five years of supervised release.

According to evidence presented by prosecutors, Worthy lived with Galloway in a Capitol Hill apartment. On April 2, 2023, an argument over $20 escalated when Worthy shot Galloway six times after firing eight rounds inside the apartment. He then stabbed Galloway five times in the neck and struck him repeatedly in the face with a firearm. Worthy also attacked Lewis by stabbing her multiple times and strangling her until she lost consciousness.

After the attacks, Worthy stayed in the apartment for more than an hour, contacting several people to ask for help "cleaning up this mess," and stating that he was "killing two people." When Lewis attempted to escape, he assaulted her again using scissors. A neighbor who witnessed part of the attack called police after hearing screams. Officers arrived soon after, prompting Worthy to flee out the back door.

During their investigation, authorities found messages from Worthy sent after the homicide admitting to killing two people. Law enforcement arrested him on April 3, 2023; he has remained in custody since his arrest.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch led the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Lawrence and Molly Smith prosecuted it. Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentencing.
