CBP urges snowmobilers near International Falls to use ROAM app for border crossings

In the International Falls, Minnesota area, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is reminding snowmobile operators about the proper use of the Report Offsite Arrival (Mobile) application, or ROAM, for reporting border crossings during the winter season. The CBP and International Falls Border Patrol have encouraged travelers to utilize this application at designated locations due to limited Ports of Entry in remote areas.

This season, former ROAM terminals at Kabetogama Lake have been removed because they are not located directly on the border. Unlike pleasure boat reporting procedures, snowmobile operators must report their entry into the United States at one of the specified ROAM terminal locations. If a terminal is unavailable or being used by another traveler, check-ins can be completed via a mobile device at the physical location of the terminal.

CBP warns that failure to properly report a crossing may result in administrative or criminal charges, vehicle seizure, or monetary fines. More information about ROAM and compliance requirements can be found on the CBP website at https://www.cbp.gov/travel/pleasure-boats/pleasure-boat-overview/roam.

The agency emphasizes its commitment to transparency and encourages vigilance from community members regarding suspicious activity along the border. Reports can be made anonymously 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-982-4077 or by emailing gfndispatch@cbp.dhs.gov.

"USBP is committed to providing transparency to keep the public apprised of what’s occurring at our borders and encourages everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity."

According to CBP, it remains "America's frontline: the nation's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency." With more than 67,000 personnel working across land, air, and sea domains, CBP states that it enforces safe travel and trade while protecting economic prosperity through innovation and collaboration.
