Cherokee County man receives 15-year sentence for firearm offense

David Dustin Fowler, a 41-year-old resident of Gaffney, South Carolina, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Court records show that in November 2024, Fowler located his estranged wife and fired a shotgun at her several times. The attack resulted in the loss of three fingers for the victim and other serious injuries that required medical attention. Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded and found Fowler standing over his wife with a shotgun. He was arrested at the scene, and an additional firearm was discovered in his truck.

Fowler had previously been convicted of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, which made it illegal for him to possess firearms.

United States District Judge Jacquelyn D. Austin sentenced Fowler to 180 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives worked with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Seventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office on this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Max Cauthen prosecuted the case.
