Oregon man sentenced to five years in prison for dark web cocaine scheme

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

An Oregon resident, Dominick Jeffrey Aragon, 32, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for attempting to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute. The cocaine was purchased through the dark web.

According to court documents, authorities intercepted several parcels addressed to Aragon between February and April 2025. The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) and the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement (RADE) task force first seized a package containing about one ounce of cocaine in February 2025. In March 2025, a second parcel containing two ounces of cocaine was also intercepted at his address. Later investigations led USPIS and RADE to seize two more packages sent to an acquaintance’s residence but addressed to Aragon; these parcels also contained controlled substances.

At the time of these incidents, Aragon was already on federal supervised release after serving a previous 15-month sentence for distributing cocaine.

Aragon pleaded guilty on September 29, 2025, to attempted possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The case was investigated by USPIS and RADE. It was prosecuted by John C. Brassell, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon, and Olivia Mendez, Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.

RADE operates as a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force supported by the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program. Its members include personnel from Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police Department, Josephine County Probation & Parole, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The HIDTA program is sponsored by the Office of National Drug Control Policy and coordinates resources for multi-agency drug enforcement efforts.
