Prime Food Processing recalls dried croaker fish over safety concerns

Prime Food Processing LLC has announced a voluntary recall of its Dried Croaker Fish due to concerns over inadequate evisceration. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that fish be properly eviscerated to prevent the risk of harmful bacteria or toxins remaining in internal organs, which can pose health risks.

The recalled product is labeled as Item #AF1410 – Dried Croaker Fish with an expiration date of December 28, 2027. It is packaged in clear wrapping with green trim and was distributed to Asian grocery stores across several states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Routine testing by the New York Department of Agriculture identified the issue during regulatory sampling. An investigation traced the problem back to an imported batch produced in Vietnam. So far there have been no reports of illnesses or adverse reactions related to this product.

Consumers who have purchased the affected dried croaker fish are advised to return it along with its packaging to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions regarding the recall or further information, Prime Food Processing LLC can be reached at 718-963-2323 from Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST.

"Fish that are not properly eviscerated may retain internal organs that can harbor harmful bacteria or toxins, posing a potential health risk to consumers," stated Prime Food Processing LLC.
