Diane J. Sabatino shares CBP updates on flower inspections, recruitment event, and border enforcement

Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino, a senior official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), shared updates on CBP operations and recruitment efforts in a series of posts on February 13, 2026.

In her first post, Sabatino highlighted the agency's work during the peak season for flower imports. She stated on February 13, 2026: "As the busiest season for flower imports approaches, CBP has already inspected more than 1 BILLION cut flowers, intercepting 600+ harmful pests and plant diseases. By Valentine’s Day, we expect to surpass last year’s 1.3 billion inspections! #OFOProud

Later that day, Sabatino promoted an upcoming virtual event aimed at attracting new talent to the agency. On February 13, 2026 she posted: "Find the perfect career! Join us on February 18, 2026, from 11 AM - 4 PM ET, at our @CBP Virtual Career Expo. Learn about our mission and how you could contribute to it, making a positive impact on yourself, your community, and your country. https://t.co/6cSt5OTopk https://t.co/Hq9hkMS3eV".

In another update posted later that afternoon, Sabatino reported an enforcement action by CBP officers in Texas: "CBP officers in El Paso, Texas, apprehended a Venezuelan national attempting to enter the United States without inspection aboard a northbound rail car transporting motor vehicles. Technology detected the attempt, and the individual was taken into custody.

CBP is responsible for protecting U.S. borders from threats such as illegal immigration and harmful agricultural pests while facilitating lawful trade and travel. The agency regularly inspects large volumes of imported goods—such as cut flowers during peak seasons—to prevent the introduction of plant diseases and invasive species into the United States.

Sabatino’s promotion of a virtual career expo reflects ongoing efforts by CBP to recruit personnel who can support its diverse mission areas across border security and trade facilitation.
