HUD appoints six new members to Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced the appointment of six new members to the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC), a federal advisory body. The MHCC remains at its full complement of 21 members, as required by law, ensuring it can continue advising HUD’s Office of Manufactured Housing Programs on updates to the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards, known as the HUD Code.

Federal Housing Commissioner and Assistant Secretary for Housing Frank Cassidy commented on the appointments: “Under Secretary Turner’s leadership, the department is making good on its promise to increase the supply and affordability of manufactured homes for American homebuyers. I welcome the new members of the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee, whose diverse perspectives will help us modernize the HUD Code and reform unnecessary barriers that have long hindered the broad production of efficient, high-quality, and affordable manufactured homes.”

The newly appointed committee members represent three categories: Users/Consumers, Producers/Retailers, and General Interest/Public Officials. The appointees are:

- Clayton Camblin, Weatherization Field Specialist at Kansas Housing Resource Corporation (Users/Consumers)

- Brad DeHays, Founder and CEO of Connect Housing Blocks (General Interest/Public Official)

- Steve Ervin, Senior Vice President – Head of FHA and Seniors Housing Finance at Berkadia Commercial Mortgage (General Interest/Public Official)

- Todd Kopstein, CEO of Cascade Financial (Producers/Retailers)

- Andrew McCoy, Ph.D., Director at Virginia Center for Housing Research and Associate Director at Myers Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech University (Users/Consumers)

- John Weldy, Vice President of Engineering at Clayton Homes Building Corp. (Producers/Retailers)

The MHCC provides recommendations to HUD’s Secretary regarding revisions to construction standards for manufactured homes as well as related procedural regulations. By regulation, this committee also participates in revising installation standards and dispute resolution program rules.
