A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm. On January 29, 2026, Chief United States District Judge Pamela Pepper handed down the sentence to Dametri G. Horton, age 34.
Horton was found guilty by a federal jury on May 7, 2025, after a two-day trial. The court heard that on November 20, 2022, Horton entered a Walgreens store in Milwaukee, approached a cashier with a firearm, and demanded money. When the cashier stepped back in fear, Horton reached over the counter and took $385.44 from the cash register.
Police arrested Horton about two weeks later following a nearly ten-mile vehicle pursuit. During his attempted escape, Horton discarded a loaded Taurus semi-automatic pistol. At the time of the offense, Horton had prior felony convictions in Wisconsin for burglary, fleeing law enforcement, recklessly endangering safety, and theft. As a result of these convictions, he was not legally allowed to possess a firearm. Before his trial for armed robbery began, Horton pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
“This case demonstrates the power of strong partnerships between federal and local law enforcement, along with a dedicated prosecution team,” said U.S. Attorney Schimel. “Working together with FBI’s Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force and Milwaukee Police Department, we ensured that a dangerous, repeat offender was held fully accountable, and this sentence sends a clear message that armed robbery and illegal firearm possession will be aggressively prosecuted and met with serious consequences.”

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force and the City of Milwaukee Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Benjamin Wesson and Robert Brady prosecuted the case.
