Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Vietnam Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung in Washington, D.C., according to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott. During the meeting, Secretary Rubio congratulated Foreign Minister Trung on the success of the recent National Party Congress. He emphasized the importance of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Both officials discussed ways to deepen cooperation on issues such as critical minerals and energy security. Secretary Rubio also thanked Foreign Minister Trung for Vietnam’s support as a founding member of the Board of Peace.
