Made Fresh Salads, Inc., based in Bay Shore, New York, has issued a recall for several flavors of its cream cheese due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems. According to the company, healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The affected products were distributed directly to retail stores and distributors in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and the greater New York City area. The recalled items are packaged in 5-pound white plastic tubs labeled "Made Fresh Salads," with expiration dates through February 27, 2026 noted on the bottom left corner of each label. The recall covers a range of flavors including Apple Cinnamon Cream Cheese, Caramel Apple Cream Cheese, Blueberry Cream Cheese, Garlic & Herb Cream Cheese, Jalapeno Cream Cheese, Jalapeno Cheddar Cream Cheese, Lox Cream Cheese, Scallion Cream Cheese, Strawberry Cream Cheese, Sundried Tomato Cream Cheese, Vegetable Cream Cheese, Walnut Raisin Cream Cheese, Whipped Cream Cheese and Tofu Whipped.
No illnesses have been reported at this time.
According to Made Fresh Salads Inc., "The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the company which revealed that a part of the mixer used to manufacture finished products was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes." The company added that it has stopped using the affected mixer and removed it from service.
Consumers who purchased any of the recalled cream cheese products are advised to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.
