Selena Crespo Dumeng was sentenced to 10 months in prison and two years of supervised release for her involvement in a conspiracy to provide contraband at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The sentence was issued on February 24, 2026, by United States District Court Chief Judge Raúl Arias Marxuach.

Crespo Dumeng was indicted on July 18, 2024, along with seven others and arrested shortly after. She pleaded guilty on November 11, 2025, to conspiring to provide contraband in prison.

Court documents show that from July 2023 until May 22, 2024, Crespo Dumeng and co-conspirators used the United States Postal Service and other third parties to send controlled substances—specifically buprenorphine strips (Suboxone)—to inmates at MDC Guaynabo. The drugs were disguised as legal mail by hiding them in specially designed document pockets or lacing them into documents. Crespo Dumeng acted as an intermediary by providing payments for the smuggling of drugs into the facility.

W. Stephen Muldrow, U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, stated: "The defendant was indicted on July 18, 2024, along with seven co-defendants, and arrested on July 22, 2024. On November 11, 2025, the defendant plead guilty to conspiracy to provide contraband in prison."

The case investigation was led by FBI San Juan. Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Vance Eaton and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos J. Romo Aldea from the Puerto Rico Department of Justice prosecuted the case.

The U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico oversees federal law enforcement efforts across Puerto Rico and addresses crimes such as drug trafficking and public corruption through criminal prosecutions and civil litigation (official website). The office also provides resources for reporting crimes to promote public safety throughout the district.
