Tulsa man sentenced to prison for illegal firearm possession

Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma

A Tulsa man, Raymond Thomas McCrary, 51, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. U.S. District Judge John D. Russell also ordered three years of supervised release after McCrary serves his sentence.

The case began in 2025 when Tulsa Police responded to reports that someone matching McCrary’s description had discharged a firearm. Officers found several shell casings around his residence and later executed a search warrant at his home. During the search, police discovered a loaded firearm in McCrary’s bedroom. According to authorities, McCrary admitted that the gun belonged to him and said he had fired it at his house.

Court documents indicate that McCrary was previously convicted in state court for two counts of second-degree robbery in 2022. He received a five-year suspended sentence at that time and was legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition.

McCrary will remain in custody until he is transferred to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The investigation involved the Tulsa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alicia Hockenbury prosecuted the case.
