Tampa man receives 20-year sentence for fatal fentanyl distribution

Brandon Lewis Graham, a 44-year-old resident of Tampa, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for distributing a substance containing cocaine and fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington. Graham had previously pleaded guilty on March 31, 2025.

According to court records, the incident occurred on March 30, 2022, when Graham sold what was believed to be cocaine to a man and a woman at a location in Riverview. After using the substance at the woman's home, she was found unresponsive the following morning. Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered her deceased. A plastic baggie containing cocaine and fentanyl was found under her bra.

An autopsy conducted by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Department determined that the victim died due to intoxication from fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol.

Investigators used witness interviews, surveillance footage, and evidence from the victim’s cellphone to identify Graham as the seller. He was known to the victim as “Homie Boog.” When arrested on August 3, 2022, Graham had two bags containing fentanyl and three bags with methamphetamine in his possession. He admitted selling narcotics to the victim at a gas station in Riverview and told detectives about additional drugs in his apartment. A subsequent search led to more bags containing fentanyl and cocaine being recovered.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Hillsborough County Medical Examiner Department, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorneys Maria Guzman and Michael Sinacore prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced: "Brandon Lewis Graham (44, Tampa) has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Hernandez Covington to 20 years in federal prison for distribution of a substance that contained cocaine and fentanyl that was used and resulted in death."
