Federal inmate indicted for alleged possession of weapon at Beaumont prison

A federal inmate has been indicted for allegedly possessing a weapon at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont, Texas. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

According to the indictment, Robert Anthony Summers, 44, is accused of having a prohibited object—a weapon or shank—while incarcerated at the facility. The charges were brought this week by a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas.

If found guilty, Summers could face up to five years in federal prison.

The Bureau of Prisons is conducting the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James is handling the prosecution.

"A federal indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law," according to the statement from authorities.
