Davone Smith, a 40-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to eight years in prison following his involvement in a shooting that occurred in Southeast Washington in March 2025. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Smith entered guilty pleas on December 12, 2025, to charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm. The case was heard in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. On March 3rd, Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean handed down the eight-year prison sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Smith had previously served time for firearm and robbery offenses related to an armed robbery in September 2009. He was released from prison in November 2024 and was under supervised release at the time he committed this latest offense.

According to evidence presented by prosecutors, on March 11, 2025, the victim arrived at D.C. Fire Emergency and Medical Services Engine 33 at 101 Atlantic Street SE after being shot. The victim sustained injuries to his right shoulder and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that the victim did not cooperate with investigators and would not disclose where the shooting took place. The victim’s wife told police she heard people calling her from outside their apartment to inform her that her husband had been shot; she then drove him to the fire station.

Police reviewed surveillance footage while canvassing the area and discovered evidence at 20 Mississippi Avenue SE, including a blood trail along the sidewalk. CCTV images from the scene identified Smith as present after the shooting occurred. He was arrested on April 13, 2025, and has remained in custody since then.

Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentencing decision.

"In announcing the sentence, U.S. Attorney Pirro and Interim Chief Carroll thanked those who worked on the case from the Metropolitan Police Department. Finally, they acknowledged the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Cook, who prosecuted the case."
