The Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning said on March 11 that the association welcomes the Federal Aviation Administration's announcement of several companies participating in a new program to test electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) and advanced air mobility (AAM) technology.
This development is significant as it marks a step toward integrating autonomous flight technologies into the National Airspace System, potentially shaping the future of aviation. The initiative aims to advance safety and effectiveness in deploying these new capabilities.
"What once felt futuristic is now becoming real: thanks to industry innovation, autonomous flight is moving from concept to capability," Fanning said. "The Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program will provide the stepping stones to begin safely and effectively integrating these new capabilities into our National Airspace System. AIA thanks President Trump, Secretary Duffy, and the FAA for their leadership in unleashing American ingenuity in aviation, and we look forward to seeing our members’ innovations help shape the future of flight."
The AIA supports diversity and inclusion initiatives within the aerospace sector, according to the official website. The association also advocates for policies that strengthen national security, foster innovation, and promote economic growth according to its official website.
In addition, AIA plays a role in shaping U.S. policy on national security, aviation safety, space innovation, and workforce development according to its official website. The organization has promoted international business ethics since 2010 by leading the International Forum on Business Ethical Conduct according to its official website.
AIA provides advocacy efforts, networking opportunities through councils and committees, as well as access to more than 1,400 industry standards according to its official website. It operates within the aerospace and defense sector supporting manufacturers and suppliers according to its official website.
As advanced air mobility technologies continue developing through programs like this one announced by the FAA, observers may expect further integration of innovative aircraft into U.S. airspace.
