Butler resident sentenced to 20 years for fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine trafficking

A Butler, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced on Mar. 24 to 20 years in federal prison followed by eight years of supervised release after being convicted of trafficking fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, according to United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

United States District Judge Robert J. Colville handed down the sentence to Qureem Overton, age 43. Overton was found guilty by a federal jury in October 2024 of conspiring to distribute at least 40 grams of fentanyl as well as quantities of heroin and cocaine between January 2017 and June 2020.

Court records indicate that Overton led a multi-year drug pipeline from Philadelphia to Butler. After serving state prison sentences for aggravated assault, robbery, and drug trafficking, he moved to Butler where he recruited dealers—many from Philadelphia—to work under him. Authorities said Overton attempted to conceal his involvement by directing these dealers while orchestrating the transactions himself.

Assistant United States Attorneys Craig W. Haller and Jacqueline C. Brown prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

Rivetti said he commended the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force for their efforts in investigating and prosecuting Overton.
