Steve Cortes, president of the League of American Workers, called for immediate passage of the SAVE Act to secure elections and maintain a functioning republic, according to a March 22 post on X.

The debate over voter verification has gained national attention as lawmakers consider new federal requirements. Supporters say measures like those in the SAVE Act are necessary to prevent ineligible voting and bolster public confidence in election outcomes.

"Pass the SAVE Act, like our country depends upon it. Cause, well, it does. If we’re a functioning republic, then we must be able to put laws like this one into place," Cortes said. He addressed the issue in a post on X, urging immediate action on the legislation in a video statement. He highlighted what he described as broad public support for voter verification and emphasized the importance of public pressure to advance the bill in Congress. He referenced a RealClearPolitics column by Doug Truax advocating a talking filibuster to secure national voter ID. The SAVE Act requires states to provide voter rolls to the Department of Homeland Security to identify and remove noncitizens from registration lists, and mandates documentary proof of citizenship for federal voter registration.

A Harvard CAPS-Harris poll found that 81% of Americans support voter ID requirements. The SAVE Act would establish this measure at the federal level to prevent ineligible voting and bolster confidence in election outcomes. Proponents note that states already use similar safeguards successfully in many jurisdictions, according to polling data.

A Pew Research Center survey found that a strong majority of U.S. adults favor requiring government-issued photo identification to vote. Gallup polling indicated similarly high levels of support for photo ID at voting places. Support spans both parties, with higher backing among Republicans. Advocates say the SAVE Act would establish a nationwide voter ID requirement for federal elections.

Cortes serves as president of the League of American Workers, where he advocates for working-class Americans on labor and economic issues. He previously advised President Trump and Vance during presidential campaigns and has appeared as a commentator on major television networks. He founded organizations focused on conservative policy priorities, including election integrity and voter eligibility, according to his biography.
