Falcon Trading Company, Inc. announced on Mar. 26 a recall of several organic black bean items after routine testing found pesticide residue in beans purchased from a certified organic handler.
The recall affects three bulk items: FTC item #003040 Black Organic (UPC 086700930403) sold in 25-pound sacks, SRF item #003056 Chili Bean Blend Organic (UPC 086700030561) sold in 15-pound boxes, and SRF item #013000 Soup Mix Organic (UPC 086700130001) sold in 25-pound boxes. The company said that because these products are sold in bulk, lot numbers may be mixed together in sales bins, prompting the recall of all lot numbers for these items.
According to Falcon Trading Company, no illnesses have been reported related to the recalled products so far. The company discovered the issue during its regular quality control procedures and is taking action because "the Organic Black Beans we purchased from a certified organic handler contained pesticide residue." Falcon Trading Company stated that "due to the presence of pesticide residue in an organic product, we are initiating a product recall."
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products are urged to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Falcon Trading Company directly at (831) 786-7000 or info@sunridgefarms.com.
This recall highlights ongoing concerns about maintaining strict standards within the organic food supply chain and ensuring consumer safety when contamination is detected.
