The U.S. Department of Labor announced on March 10 that it has awarded $224,994 to Oregon to support employment and training services for workers affected by layoffs at Roseburg Forest Products.

Roseburg Forest Products permanently closed its Dillard, Oregon facility on Sept. 25, 2025, resulting in the layoff of 107 workers and significant economic disruption in the region. The funding is administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration through a National Dislocated Worker Grant.

According to the Department of Labor, "this National Dislocated Worker Grant will allow the Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board to provide retraining and skills development services for dislocated workers seeking assistance in Douglas County." The grant is supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, which provides funding for direct services and assistance in areas experiencing major economic dislocation events that lead to workforce needs exceeding available resources.

In related efforts, on August 24, 2022, the Department of Labor announced $3.4 million Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations grants administered by the department’s Women’s Bureau and Employment and Training Administration. Phoenix, Arizona has been awarded $542,358 through the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation.

Further details about this grant are available according to the official roster page.
