The U.S. Department of Labor announced on March 16 that it has cited Alpha Baking Co. Inc., a Midwest commercial bakery, for repeated and serious safety violations following an employee injury in September 2025.

According to the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the citations come after a worker suffered a broken arm while clearing dough from a machine on the production line. OSHA cited Alpha Baking Co. Inc. with repeat violations for lack of lockout tagout training, failing to lock out a machine during servicing, and hazards related to unguarded machines. The agency also cited the company for failing to train employees in electrical work, implement safety-related work practices, and require personal protective equipment when performing electrical tasks.

Alpha Baking Co. Inc. faces three repeat and three serious violations, with proposed penalties totaling $326,276. The company has 15 business days from receipt of their citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.

Employers are encouraged by OSHA to learn about controlling hazardous energy and proper machine guarding as part of compliance efforts. Additional resources are available through OSHA’s compliance assistance programs.

On August 24, 2022, the Department of Labor announced $3.4 million Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations grants administered by the department’s Women’s Bureau and Employment and Training Administration. Phoenix, Arizona has been awarded $542,358 through the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation according to the Department of Labor.

Further details about this case can be found as listed on the official roster page.
