DeKalb County felon indicted for possessing firearm in connection with shooting

Shikino Quantavius Reid was arraigned on April 1 on federal charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after allegedly firing a gun in a Decatur neighborhood last summer. Reid, who is from Decatur, Georgia, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 24 and will remain in custody until the conclusion of his case.

The case highlights ongoing efforts to address gun violence and public safety risks associated with repeat offenders. The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia has prioritized prosecution of threats such as terrorism, human trafficking, and civil rights violations to serve the community, according to the official website.

According to U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg, "Shikino Reid’s dangerous and violent alleged actions put himself and others at serious risk of injury or death. We will continue our efforts to prevent and punish gun crime in our community by prosecuting unlawfully armed felons." Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ryan Todd said, "Repeat offenders pose a serious threat to public safety. ATF is proud to work alongside our law enforcement partners to protect our communities."

Court documents state that on July 23, 2025, Reid allegedly attempted to start an altercation at his neighbor’s residence by discharging two firearms into the air. After returning to his vehicle, associates of the neighbor fired back at him, striking both Reid and a house across the street. Prosecutors say that Reid is a multi-convicted violent repeat offender with prior convictions including Attempted Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, as well as being previously convicted as a Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Theodore S. Hertzberg held the position of United States Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia according to the official website. The office enforces federal criminal laws and represents the United States in civil matters while collaborating with law enforcement agencies across north Georgia mountains through Atlanta suburbs up to borders with Alabama and the Carolinas serving about 7.5 million residents according to information provided by its official website.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which brings together all levels of law enforcement with communities they serve aiming at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
