Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice
Daniel Debreczeni, a 35-year-old man from Duxbury, pleaded guilty on April 1 in federal court in Boston to one count of distribution of child pornography. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise J. Casper scheduled sentencing for July 16.
The case is significant as it involves the distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), an issue that federal authorities continue to address through nationwide initiatives.
According to court documents, Debreczeni distributed three videos containing CSAM between November 29 and December 12, 2023, using a private chat room on the Kik Messenger platform dedicated to child sexual abuse. The children depicted in the videos appeared to be approximately two, three, and eight years old. A subsequent search of Debreczeni’s residence led investigators to find five images and nineteen videos depicting CSAM on his Kik account.
The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to twenty years in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the judge based on federal guidelines and statutes.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley said valuable assistance was provided by the Massachusetts State Police as well as the Duxbury and Quincy Police Departments during the investigation. Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston Division also participated in announcing the plea.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child exploitation crimes through coordination among federal, state, and local agencies.
