A federal grand jury in New Haven indicted Thomas Marra, 55, of North Haven, for allegedly robbing a Webster Bank branch in Berlin on Dec. 31, according to an April 2 announcement by David X. Sullivan, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Authorities said Marra was charged with bank robbery and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on Jan. 7.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, Marra had previously been sentenced in May 2023 to five years in federal prison for a narcotics trafficking offense and was released from custody in June 2025. At the time of the alleged bank robbery, he was under federal supervised release and may face further penalties if found to have violated those conditions.

U.S. Attorney Sullivan said, "An indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with police departments from Berlin and North Haven. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathan J. Guevremont and Brendan J. Keefe are prosecuting the case.
