Damarko Amir Kimble, a 29-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, pleaded guilty on April 2 to charges of possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and assaulting a federal officer while the officer was performing official duties.

The case highlights law enforcement efforts against drug trafficking and assaults on officers during the course of their duties.

According to court documents, federal agents encountered Kimble on October 7, 2024, at a service plaza parking lot along the I-80/90 turnpike in Sandusky County. The agents stopped Kimble because his rental vehicle had expired registration tags. A K-9 officer working with the agents detected illegal substances in the vehicle. During a probable cause search, agents found a backpack containing a plastic bag later confirmed to hold 577.7 grams of pure methamphetamine.

As agents attempted to arrest Kimble, he rushed toward one of them and knocked him off his feet before trying to flee. Agents apprehended him shortly after.

Kimble is scheduled for sentencing on July 14. The sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge who will consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The investigation leading to Kimble's indictment was conducted by the U.S. Border Patrol Sandusky Bay Station. Assistant United States Attorney Dexter L. Phillips for the Northern District of Ohio leads the prosecution.
