Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters on April 7 to discuss the bilateral relationship and regional security issues, according to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
The meeting focused on strengthening ties between the United States and New Zealand, addressing current global challenges, and advancing cooperation in key areas.
Rubio and Peters discussed the ongoing conflict in Iran, as well as ways to enhance collaboration on critical minerals supply chains. They also addressed efforts to promote prosperity and security in the Pacific Islands region.
Both officials praised the enduring friendship between their countries. "Secretary Rubio and Foreign Minister Peters applauded the enduring friendship between New Zealand and the United States and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing shared interests and strategic priorities," Pigott said.
The talks reflect ongoing efforts by both nations to work together on regional stability, economic growth, and shared international goals.
