Collin County man sentenced to federal prison as part of Operation Take Back America for robbing firearms store

A McKinney man has been sentenced on April 7 to more than seven years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the robbery of a firearms store in the Eastern District of Texas, according to U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Brandon Elliott Bennett, age 22, received an 87-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant following his guilty plea to conspiracy of theft from a federal firearm licensee and theft from a federal firearm licensee.

Court records show that on May 5, 2024, Bennett worked with others to rob Mister Guns, a licensed gun shop located in Plano. The group used a vehicle to ram into the front entrance of the business, which resulted in significant damage and removal of the entrance door. Once inside, Bennett broke several glass display cases using a sledgehammer and stole more than sixty firearms including rifles, handguns, and pistols before fleeing and later selling the stolen weapons for profit.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America—a national initiative led by the Department of Justice aiming to address illegal immigration issues, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from violent crime perpetrators.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Chalana A. Oliver prosecuted it.
