Kalona man sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for child sexual exploitation

A Kalona man, Alexander Warren Dehogues, was sentenced on April 7 to 25 years in federal prison for sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and prosecutors to address crimes involving the abuse and exploitation of minors. The sentence reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are treated under federal law.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, the Washington County Sheriff's Office received information in May 2025 that Dehogues, age 35, had secretly recorded two minor children while they were undressed. These recordings were saved on his electronic devices. A forensic examination revealed that Dehogues used these devices to record, receive, and possess images and videos containing child sexual abuse material.

After serving his prison term, Dehogues will be required to complete an eight-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

United States Attorney David C. Waterman of the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentence. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.

This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
