Two Lowell men plead guilty to methamphetamine pill trafficking conspiracy

Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice

Two Lowell men, Owen Landry and Zachary Hansen, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to the distribution and conspiracy to distribute counterfeit Adderall pills containing methamphetamine, according to an April 10 announcement by federal authorities.

The case is significant due to its connection with the Asian Boyz gang and the large quantities of methamphetamine involved. Authorities say these actions impacted the Lowell community through the manufacturing and sale of illegal drugs.

Landry, also known as "Oski," pleaded guilty on April 8 to several counts including conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine. Sentencing for Landry is scheduled for July 8. Hansen pleaded guilty on March 31 to similar charges, with sentencing set for March 31 next year. Both men were among five individuals charged in January last year.

Investigators began looking into the Asian Boyz gang in 2021 as part of efforts aimed at disrupting large-scale drug operations in Lowell. The investigation found that Landry, a gang member, and Hansen worked together with another associate, Sovath Yern (also known as "Stryke"), using Hansen's residence as a storage and distribution center for counterfeit Adderall pills. Undercover law enforcement operations documented multiple transactions involving thousands of pills exchanged for cash at locations in Lowell and Billerica.

Federal prosecutors outlined that each charge carries mandatory minimum sentences ranging from five years up to life imprisonment depending on the quantity involved. Final sentences will be determined by a federal district court judge based on sentencing guidelines.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley said valuable assistance was provided by several local police departments during this operation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred M. Wyshak III is prosecuting the case.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, described as a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice targeting illegal immigration, cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime through coordinated resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Authorities remind that all details contained within charging documents are allegations; any remaining defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
