St. Louis man sentenced to 30 years for recording sexual abuse of five-year-old

A St. Louis man was sentenced on April 15 to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to producing child pornography by recording his sexual abuse of a five-year-old child, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address crimes involving the exploitation and abuse of children, which remain a serious concern nationwide.

Marshall Williams, age 41, admitted in court that he sexually abused the victim and recorded the act with his cell phone in March 2024. The crime came to light when the victim’s aunt discovered videos on Williams’ phone and notified the child's mother. After being confronted, Williams fled St. Louis but was later arrested in Columbia, Missouri. U.S. District Judge Cristian M. Stevens handed down the sentence after Williams pleaded guilty in November.

The investigation was conducted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson prosecuted the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri investigates and prosecutes federal crimes such as terrorism and fraud while enforcing civil rights; it collaborates with law enforcement entities to prevent crime and improve community quality of life across its jurisdiction of 49 counties according to its official website. The office operates under the United States Department of Justice from locations including both Thomas F. Eagleton U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis and Rush H. Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse in Cape Girardeau as noted online.
