Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met with Belize Prime Minister John Briceño, Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca, Ambassador Nestor Mendez, and Cabinet Secretary and Chief of Staff Stuart Leslie in Washington, D.C. on April 17.
The meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between the United States and Belize. This partnership is significant for both countries as they work together to address regional issues such as narcotics trafficking and illegal migration.
According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, "Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau met today with Belize Prime Minister John Briceño, Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca, Ambassador Nestor Mendez, and Cabinet Secretary and Chief of Staff Stuart Leslie in Washington, D.C." Pigott also said that during the meeting "Deputy Secretary Landau and Prime Minister Briceño reaffirmed the strong partnership between the United States and Belize and discussed enhanced cooperation to combat narcotics trafficking and illegal migration. The two leaders also discussed energy opportunities and regional challenges."
The discussion covered a range of topics including energy opportunities for both nations as well as broader regional challenges facing Central America.
This engagement reflects ongoing efforts by both governments to deepen bilateral relations through collaboration on security issues and economic development.
