Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with Minister of Finance Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari of Qatar on Apr. 19 to discuss Iran’s recent attacks against Gulf Cooperation Council countries and their effects on both regional and global economies.
The meeting addressed concerns about the economic impact of these attacks, particularly in relation to energy markets. Both officials discussed ongoing cooperation between the United States and Qatar, focusing on efforts to deter future aggression by Iran.
Bessent said that the United States aims "to deter future attacks by Iran and to ensure that energy and broader markets are not further impacted." He also welcomed continued Qatari investment in the United States, especially as it relates to strengthening energy security.
