Midwest City man sentenced to nine years for firearm and drug offenses

Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma

Jarmelle Dante Carter, 38, of Midwest City, was sentenced on April 21 to nine years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition after a previous felony conviction and for his involvement in a drug conspiracy, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.

The sentencing underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address gun violence and drug trafficking within the region.

According to public records, officers from the Midwest City Police Department executed search warrants at two addresses linked to Carter on May 15, 2025. During the searches, they found two 12-gauge shotguns, ammunition, large amounts of cash, cocaine, and marijuana. On July 16, 2025, Carter was charged by a federal grand jury with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition as well as conspiracy related to drugs. He pleaded guilty on December 10 that year and admitted possessing firearms despite prior felony convictions and conspiring with others to distribute cocaine.

At the sentencing hearing before U.S. District Judge David L. Russell on April 21, Judge Russell cited Carter’s history of repeated drug dealing when handing down the sentence of nine years in prison followed by three years supervised release. Public records show that Carter has previous felony convictions in Oklahoma County District Court for distribution of cocaine (case number CF-2007-4865) and possession with intent to distribute (CF-2012-367).

This case resulted from an investigation conducted by the Midwest City Police Department alongside the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Gridley prosecuted the case.
