Tallahassee man indicted on federal drug and firearm charges in April court filing

Christopher Lamar Daniels, 47, of Tallahassee, Florida, was indicted on April 23 for possession with intent to distribute multiple controlled substances, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Daniels appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Martin A. Fitzpatrick in Tallahassee for his arraignment. His jury trial is set for June 15 at the U.S. District Court in Tallahassee before Judge Robert L. Hinkle.

If convicted on the drug charge, Daniels faces a minimum mandatory sentence of ten years up to life imprisonment and an additional five years if found guilty of carrying a firearm during a drug-trafficking crime. Should his prior felony convictions qualify him as an Armed Career Criminal, he could face at least fifteen years up to life imprisonment for possessing a firearm as a felon.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tallahassee Police Department are jointly investigating the case while Assistant United States Attorney James A. McCain is prosecuting it.

An indictment represents only an allegation by the grand jury; Daniels remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt at trial.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative aimed at repelling illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations that threaten community safety through violent crime.
