Tayon Wright, a 26-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and previously convicted felon, was sentenced on Apr. 24 to 30 months in prison for unlawfully possessing a Glock pistol after fleeing from a car crash following a police pursuit, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address gun crimes involving repeat offenders. Prosecutors said Wright was already on supervised probation when he illegally armed himself with a modified firearm capable of automatic fire.

"Tayon Wright was a felon on supervised probation when he chose to illegally arm himself with a Glock outfitted with a giggle switch — a device that transformed it into an automatic weapon capable of unleashing lethal fire in seconds," Pirro said. "Today’s sentence is a direct message to any others who think they can disregard the law without facing the consequences."

Wright pleaded guilty before Judge Amy Berman Jackson on Jan. 21, 2026, to unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In addition to the prison term, he will serve three years of supervised release; prosecutors had requested an even longer sentence.

Court documents show that police found the loaded Glock next to the crashed vehicle after pursuing Wright through Southeast D.C., and discovered drugs and cash during his arrest. Authorities noted that while Wright fled from the stolen Audi he had been driving, he is not considered connected to its theft.

Wright's prior felony convictions in Prince George’s County included armed carjacking and possession of a regulated firearm in November 2021—offenses which barred him from possessing firearms or ammunition at the time of his latest arrest.
