A Pittsburgh resident, Marissa Lynn Segal, was sentenced on Apr. 27 to 90 months in federal prison and ten years of supervised release for distributing and possessing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address crimes involving the exploitation of children. The sentence also includes approximately $13,000 in restitution that Segal must pay to victims.
Court documents show that on July 14, 2025, Segal distributed images and videos showing the sexual abuse of minors using a mobile application. The materials included depictions of infant victims and acts involving bestiality. Evidence presented during sentencing established that one victim was only four months old and that Segal knew about the abuse at the time it occurred. In addition to distribution, she possessed other images and videos featuring prepubescent minors.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher prosecuted the case. Rivetti said he commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for its work leading up to this prosecution.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies.
