Diane J. Sabatino shares updates on drug seizures and honors CBP service

Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino, a senior official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), shared several updates on her Twitter account regarding recent activities and commemorations within the agency.

On April 28, 2026, Sabatino reported a significant drug seizure at JFK International Airport. She wrote, "STOPPED AT THE PORT JFK International Airport During warehouse sweeps, CBP officers selected a pallet from Mexico. A scan flagged anomalies. Inside one box, officers found 29 packages of cocaine and 15 packages of heroin, 33.20 lbs and 18.51 lbs. #OFOproud".

Later that day, Sabatino posted a message honoring a fallen officer: "We remember the life of CBP Officer Mario DiChiara. He died in the line of duty on this day in 2021 after serving CBP for 25 years. We thank him for his service and our hearts are with his family and loved ones. #LODD #GoneButNotForgotten".

On April 29, 2026, she highlighted the work of CBP K9 units with a reflective post: "Beneath the desert night sky; A K9’s eyes gleam in the dark. Twin beacons of vigilance and trust. Handler and K9 stand tall, Bound by purpose, forged through training. A handler’s heart beats with pride, inspired to serve. #NightShiftStrong #JoinCBP #OFOproud".

CBP is responsible for enforcing customs laws at U.S. ports of entry and regularly conducts inspections to prevent illegal drugs from entering the country. The agency also employs specialized K9 teams trained to detect narcotics and other contraband during border security operations.

Mario DiChiara served as a CBP officer for over two decades before his death in the line of duty in 2021.
