Kelly Berenguer, 46, of Jamestown, New York, was sentenced to time served for possession of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced on May 4. The sentence was handed down by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer.
Berenguer’s case stems from an October 17, 2024 traffic stop by the Jamestown Police Department. During the stop, law enforcement officers found a quantity of methamphetamine and a digital scale in her vehicle. She was taken into custody at that time.
The prosecution said this case is part of Operation Take Back America, described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti prosecuted the case with investigative support from several agencies: Jamestown Police Department under Chief Scott Forster; Drug Enforcement Administration under Special Agent-in-Charge Farhana Islam; and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff James Quattrone.
