Justice Department announces results of Operation Iron Pursuit, over 200 child victims located

The Department of Justice announced on May 5 the results of Operation Iron Pursuit, a month-long nationwide enforcement effort that led to the recovery of more than 200 child victims and the arrest of over 350 individuals accused of child sexual abuse offenses. The operation ran from April 1 to April 30 and involved all FBI field offices and U.S. Attorneys' offices across the country.

Operation Iron Pursuit was launched as part of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, aiming to locate children who were victims of sexual exploitation and bring offenders to justice. The Administration for Children and Families recognizes April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“This operation puts every child predator on notice: we are coming for you,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “The sexual exploitation of minors is an abomination with no place in our society. We will hunt down these offenders, hold them fully accountable under the law, and deliver justice for victims.”

FBI Director Kash Patel said, “Every single day this FBI is working 24/7 to break networks of child abusers all across this country. Last year we joined our partners delivering a record year, identifying and rescuing over 6,300 missing children, and today’s announcement of Operation Iron Pursuit is just the latest success in that work — with over 200 victims located and over 350 offenders arrested. Let this be a message to criminal actors who seek to target America’s children: you will be pursued, and you will be brought to justice.”

United States Attorney for the District of South Dakota Ron Parsons said his office has charged four individuals in connection with this operation: “Working closely with our partners at the FBI, our office has brought charges against four South Dakota individuals in connection with this nationwide operation. We have no higher priority than keeping your children safe.” The U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota enforces federal laws and advances community safety throughout its district; it serves as chief federal law enforcement office handling criminal prosecutions since its establishment in 1861 according to the official website.

FBI Minneapolis Division Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson added: "The arrests made during Operation Iron Pursuit are a significant step in bringing justice to child victims... They now face justice in Federal court... We continue to work each and every day to protect the innocent and support child victims through their healing process."

Among those recovered was a ten-year-old from Utah who had been taken abroad; FBI Victim Services Division assisted with crisis support upon recovery. Offenders arrested face allegations including sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, kidnapping, possession or distribution of abusive materials involving children.

This effort follows previous operations last year—Operation Relentless Justice rescued more than two hundred children; Enduring Justice rescued one hundred thirty-three; Restore Justice rescued one hundred fifteen—each resulting in numerous arrests.

The Department partners with organizations such as NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children), which operates a tipline at missingkids.org or by phone at any time.

Authorities urge anyone suspecting child exploitation or abuse to report tips via tips.fbi.gov or by calling local field offices.
