Wallingford man sentenced to 18 months for embezzling over $214,000 from bank

Jonathan Lim, a 42-year-old resident of Wallingford, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on May 6 to 18 months in prison for bank fraud and embezzlement. United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Lim will also serve five years of supervised release and must pay $214,155 in restitution. The sentence was handed down by United States District Judge Michael M. Baylson.

The case concerns Lim's actions while he managed a bank branch in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. According to court filings and statements made during the proceedings, Lim assumed responsibility for administering the branch’s automated teller machine (ATM), which included access to its interior. Between August and November of 2019, he stole cash from the ATM on multiple occasions and falsified records to conceal his thefts.

Lim resigned from his position at the bank on November 24, 2019. Two days later, an audit revealed a shortfall exceeding $178,000 in the ATM and an additional shortage of $36,000 in Lim’s cash box. In total, he embezzled approximately $214,000 from the branch and spent most of it gambling.

Lim was charged by indictment with these offenses in September 2024 and pleaded guilty two months later.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Philadelphia Newtown Square Resident Agency investigated this case with assistance from the Federal Reserve. Assistant United States Attorneys Alisa Shver and S. Chandler Harris prosecuted the case.
