Jadhian Cordero was sentenced on May 7 to eight years in prison for aiding and abetting the brandishing of a firearm during an armed robbery that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old bystander, according to United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton. U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff handed down the sentence.

The case centers on an incident that took place on August 27, 2025, near East 109th Street and Madison Avenue in Manhattan. Prosecutors said Cordero and two co-conspirators robbed a drug dealer around midday, leading to a physical altercation before fleeing with backpacks containing marijuana.

During their escape, one co-conspirator fired fifteen shots from a firearm equipped with a machine-gun conversion device toward the drug dealer. Robin Wright, a bystander using a walker at East 110th Street and Madison Avenue, was struck by gunfire and later died at the hospital.

"Jadhian Cordero chose to participate in the armed robbery of a drug dealer in the middle of the day on the street in East Harlem, which led to the death of Robin Wright, a 69-year-old, wholly innocent woman," said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. "New York City families deserve to live free of senseless and destructive violence on our streets. Today’s sentence demonstrates that the women and men of this Office are dedicated to holding all participants in violent gun crimes accountable." Multiple members of Wright's family submitted letters describing her as a loving parent and grandmother who was enjoying her afternoon when she became an unintended victim.

In addition to his prison term, Cordero will serve five years under supervised release following his incarceration. Clayton praised investigative work by Homeland Security Investigations and New York City Police Department as well as assistance from other law enforcement agencies involved.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexandra S. Messiter, Kathryn Wheelock, and Brandon D. Harper from the Violent Organizations and Crime Unit.
