Moses Hernandez, a 34-year-old former resident of Lafayette, was sentenced on April 30 to 228 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to receipt of child pornography, according to a May 7 announcement by U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute crimes involving the exploitation of children.
Court evidence showed that in July 2025, the Federal Bureau of Investigation received a tip indicating Hernandez had confessed to an acquaintance about molesting a young girl and producing material documenting the abuse. Following this information, agents located Hernandez in Lafayette and began an investigation. The FBI obtained a warrant to search his cell phone, which revealed images and videos depicting child rape, bestiality, and other forms of graphic child pornography.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Danny Siefker prosecuted the case with assistance from Paralegal Specialist Denise Duhon. The FBI led the investigation.
Hernandez will also serve 25 years of supervised release following his prison term.
