Kevin P. Davidson, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama
A Coosada, Alabama man was sentenced on May 6 to more than ten years in federal prison after being convicted of methamphetamine distribution and illegal possession of a firearm, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson on May 7.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address drug trafficking and gun crimes. Deandre Maurice Jennings, age 39, received a sentence of 130 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court records and Jennings's agreement, law enforcement officers stopped his vehicle in Montgomery on February 20, 2025. During the search, officers found 434 grams of methamphetamine and a handgun. Because Jennings had previous felony convictions, he was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. On October 6, 2025, Jennings pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Millbrook Police Department, Montgomery Police Department and Elmore County Drug Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Levi prosecuted the case.
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative using resources from the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration as well as eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
