The U.S. Secret Service has recently highlighted the addition of former Special Agent in Charge Michael Rice to its Wall of Honor, as well as promoted child safety initiatives through Operation Safe Kids, according to a series of posts on its official Twitter account.

On May 6, 2026, the agency announced: "The Secret Service will add the name of former Special Agent in Charge Michael Rice to its Wall of Honor this week. SAIC Rice passed away in 2019 from cancer linked to his work at the Fresh Kills New York landfill site following the September 11 attacks. He will be the 41st".

A follow-up post on May 7, 2026 provided further details about Rice’s career and service: "Special Agent in Charge Michael Rice was a Vietnam War veteran, a 9/11 recovery volunteer and had a 26-year Secret Service career. He embodied the quiet professionalism and selfless service this agency was built on. His name is now permanently inscribed on the Secret Service Wall".

On May 8, 2026, the Secret Service also promoted Operation Safe Kids (OSK), an initiative aimed at helping parents keep children safe: "Keeping kids safe is a team effort. Operation Safe Kids (OSK) gives parents a photo, biographical info and inkless fingerprints of their child — all stored with you, not us. If your child is ever reported missing, that information is ready to help bring them home. Request a".

Michael Rice’s inclusion on the Wall of Honor recognizes his sacrifice related to recovery efforts after September 11, when many first responders were exposed to hazardous conditions at sites like Fresh Kills Landfill during cleanup operations. The Fresh Kills site served as a major sorting ground for debris from Ground Zero after the attacks.

Operation Safe Kids reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to assist families in preventing and responding to child abductions or disappearances by providing identification materials directly to parents.
