Corey Wilkerson, 30, of Lake Panasoffkee, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber to three years in federal prison for possession of obscene visual representations of the sexual abuse of children, according to an Aug. 4 announcement by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
Court records show that between October 20, 2023, and July 10, 2024, Wilkerson possessed thousands of obscene animated images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The images also showed the sexual abuse of prepubescent and infant females.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Hannah Nowalk Watson and Sarah Janette Swartzberg prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders who exploit children and rescue victims.
