Mekhi Greene, 18, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced on Jul. 31 to five years in prison by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia for his role in an armed carjacking, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Greene pleaded guilty to carjacking on September 19, 2025. His co-defendant, Keon Preston, also pleaded guilty and received a four-year prison sentence on May 15, 2026. In addition to Greene’s five-year sentence, Judge Deborah Israel ordered him to serve 36 months of probation. Greene was 17 at the time of the offense. The case was prosecuted under Title 16 of the D.C. Code.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on March 23, 2025, at approximately 9:19 p.m., when Greene, Preston, and two unidentified suspects carjacked a local resident at gunpoint in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street Northeast. All four individuals were seen wearing masks and dark clothing; one carried a large weapon with an extended clip.
Police later located the stolen white Volkswagen Jetta and attempted a traffic stop before three suspects fled on foot. Officers apprehended Greene and Preston during this pursuit and recovered two firearms—one found along Preston’s flight path and another inside the rear passenger seat of the vehicle—which included an automatic conversion switch with a round chambered inside.
U.S. Attorney Pirro announced the sentencing alongside Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department. Both officials acknowledged investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Green for their work prosecuting this case.
