United States Attorney D. Michael Dunavant announced on Aug. 5 that Assistant United States Attorney Will Crow will serve as the District Election Officer for the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Tennessee during the upcoming general and primary elections scheduled for August 6, 2026.
Dunavant said, “Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted without it being stolen because of fraud. The Department of Justice will always act appropriately to protect the integrity of the election process.” In this role, Crow will oversee complaints related to voting rights concerns, threats against election officials or staff, and allegations of election fraud in consultation with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.
Crow will be available while polls are open to respond to any issues raised by voters or officials and can be reached at 901-544-4231. The announcement reminded citizens that crimes such as violence or intimidation should first be reported to local authorities by calling 911 before contacting federal agencies, due to faster response times by state and local police at polling places. Federal law prohibits actions including threatening violence against election workers, voter intimidation or bribery, impersonating voters, altering tallies, ballot box stuffing, and marking ballots without voter input. Protections under federal law also ensure voters’ rights to mark their own ballots or receive assistance if needed due to disability or literacy challenges.
The Department of Justice continues its longstanding Election Day Program aimed at deterring discrimination and intimidation at polling sites while addressing threats toward poll workers and instances of fraud in order to uphold public confidence in elections through accessible reporting channels within the department.
