The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on July 31 that it will present a fraud prevention seminar aimed at educating seniors in southern Illinois about current scams targeting them online and over the phone.

The seminar will provide information on online scams, fraud schemes directed at seniors, and details of federal cases prosecuted in the Southern District of Illinois. The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, at Godfrey Baptist Church, located at 1601 W. Delmar Ave., Godfrey, Illinois.

Attendees will receive tips for detecting scams and advice on how to contact law enforcement if they believe they have been victimized by fraudulent activity.

The event is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited. Media representatives interested in attending are asked to RSVP in advance to Amanda McQuaid (Amanda.Mcquaid@usdoj.gov).

This initiative reflects ongoing efforts by federal authorities to inform older adults about emerging threats and help prevent financial exploitation.
