The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island will participate in National Night Out with law enforcement partners, residents, and communities across the state on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.
“National Night Out provides an important opportunity to connect with the residents we serve and strengthen relationships that are essential to public safety,” said First Assistant United States Attorney Charles C. Calenda. “We are proud to join our law enforcement and community partners across Rhode Island and to continue working together to make our neighborhoods stronger.”
National Night Out is an annual campaign designed to promote partnerships between law enforcement and local communities in order to improve neighborhood safety. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August in thousands of communities nationwide, involving millions of participants each year.
Established in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the U.S. Department of Justice, National Night Out is administered by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering community-law enforcement relations.
Personnel from the U.S. Attorney’s Office plan to attend several events hosted by Project Safe Neighborhood partner agencies throughout Rhode Island, including gatherings organized by police departments in Pawtucket (Payne Park), Central Falls (Jenks Park/Veterans Memorial Park), Providence (Joslin Park), and Woonsocket (World War II Memorial Park). These events will also include participation from school staff, substance use prevention coalitions, Family Care Community Partnership members, Family Services RI representatives, PSN Strategic Committee members, and other social service agencies.
The U.S. Attorney for the District of Rhode Island enforces federal laws statewide through prosecutions and civil actions that protect public safety and interest; works with federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation; promotes safer communities through initiatives like the Elder Justice Program; operates under the United States Department of Justice; and extends operations throughout all regions in Rhode Island, according to its official website.
