The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah will participate in National Night Out events with law enforcement partners, community leaders, and residents throughout Utah, according to a July 31 announcement.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office is proud to participate in National Night Out. These events provide an important opportunity for meaningful interaction, fostering trust, and strengthening relationships within our communities,” said U.S. Attorney Melissa Holyoak of the District of Utah. “We look forward to engaging with residents and working alongside our law enforcement partners as we continue advancing efforts toward safer and stronger communities throughout the state.”
National Night Out is an annual campaign aimed at building partnerships between law enforcement agencies and local communities to promote neighborhood safety. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August in most areas across the country, involving millions of participants nationwide through activities such as block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel.
The program was established in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the U.S. Department of Justice and is administered by the National Association of Town Watch.
Scheduled events where representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office will be present include Riverton City Public Safety Night on August 3 at Riverton City Park; UPD Night Out Against Crime on August 4 at Big Cottonwood Regional Park in Millcreek; Woods Cross Police Department’s event on August 6 at Woods Cross City Hall (Hogan Park); Ogden’s Night Out Against Crime on August 12 at Lorin Farr Park; and Murray City Police & Fire Safety Fair on August 31 at Murray Park.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah advances community well-being through victim assistance programs and public safety initiatives; maintains offices in Salt Lake City and St. George along with access to federal sites like Hill Air Force Base; operates under the U.S. Department of Justice; includes about 85 employees featuring 45 assistant attorneys; enforces federal laws to protect Utah residents and promote community safety; and covers all 29 counties in Utah including areas with five national parks and multiple Indian reservations, according to its official website.
